I made my first ring at the London Oratory School in Fulham, probably around 1984. It was in copper
and it had a big red stone set in the middle of it. When I finished it, I think even I was surprised that it
looked.....well.....`ring-shaped`. Would love to know where that ring is now, but that ring led me to go
onto the Sir John Cass Art University in Whitechapel in the East End of London, where I learnt the
basics on jewellery-making. I also excelled at pool, which I played daily during lunch-times at the Uni-
bar. Those balls flew off the table on many an occasion.
This led me to Hatton Garden, working for several jewellery companies. As with most jewellers, it wasn't
long before I had a workbench at home, and would potter away in the evenings and at weekends
working on my own little designs.
I started up my little jewellery design company a few years ago. I named my company after my youngest daughter, Sanaer. The name
of my main collection of jewellery pieces are named after my eldest daughter, Cuisle. Cuisle being an Irish name is hard to pronounce,
so in order for the name to be more legible, I Anglicised the name to Kushla, to make it simpler. Both daughters are thrilled to have their
names splashed all over the internet!
I would like for the Kushlas to become a brand, easier said than done of course, so many recognisable jewellery designs out there,
especially the Irish Claddagh ring which has been around for over 100 years, and is still worn down through the decades. I wonder did
the jeweller who came up with that design think it would be worn by hundreds of thousands of people around the world, when he made
his first one!
So my designs are made around the names of loved ones. Will hopefully be adding to the collection every six months or so, but the
theme will always be names and words.
Do feel free to contact me by phone, email, Facebook, Twitter or carrier pigeon to discuss your every jewellery need. Also happy to
arrange a personal viewing of the jewellery collection, in Hatton Garden. I can also turn my hand to making jewellery from your very
own designs, a simple pencil drawing can quickly be turned into your very own designed piece.
P.S. Did I mention that I'm a Manchester United supporter, thought I should, just in case you are a Leeds United supporter and were
thinking of ordering something........
